Snot galore and goals

Hi there! Again, its been a long time. I’ve learned that having my kids in daycare just means that all the kids pass a cold back and forth. By the time it’s hit all of us in the house and we get better; we seem to get hit with it again. It’s just a constant battle with all the snot. And yes, it’s as pleasant as it sounds!

So what’s up? what’s new with me?! Not a ton honestly. I haven’t been putting a ton of effort into booking makeup jobs. I will say I’ve been slacking about that. I do have the wedding showcase coming up here in March and that’ll surely bring some bookings for wedding season. I guess this brings me to my goals…

I know, I know; everyone and their mother sets goals for the new year. I guess you can include me in that group too. I haven’t set strict goals for myself, but just to overall be better in some areas of my life. I need to be more consistent in posting with my IG (which I have been). I also want to be more proactive about advertising my makeup services. We have two military bases close by and they have balls all the time which is a huge market for me to tap into! Just need to put myself out there more. Another big goal is to get healthier physically. I’ve kind of let myself go after having my second kid so I’ve been working out in the mornings 4 times a week and started watching what I eat a little more. I don’t want to go too strict with this because I know that’s not realistic for me (hello…i have kids that love sugar and that deep love comes from my side) but I just want to be more accountable for myself.

So that’s about it around these parts. Since I’m on the tail end of my cold, I’ll hopefully be able to post more…until the cold passes back around to us again.

Hugs and Luvs,

Part 2 of products in my kit

Here I am! only a week and a half later… I swear time flies. I feel like I just blogged like 4 days ago. One day I’ll get the hang of posting consistently on my blog. I’ve been putting in a lot of effort on my Instagram so go that out here.

My disclaimer for higher end beauty products is that they may not always be superior. There are cases were the pigmentation or the blendability just isn’t there. Some brands can have really disappointing lipsticks per say but have amazing bronzers. So definitely do your research before you go and spend your hard-earned money.  Let’s just hop right in because once again, there is a lot of products!

High End:

Foundation & Concealer:

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation: This foundation has the perfect amount of coverage but I will also sheer it out sometimes and it just really melts into my skin.

NARS Sheer Glow: If you just want to even out your skin tone, this foundation is great. Its light weight and glowy.

Tarte Shape Tape: This is by far my favorite concealer. It is my holy grail and I haven’t found anything close to this pigmented. It covers up all those dark circles!!!

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer: I used this product for years before the Shape Tape came along and I’ve recently gotten back into using it. It has pretty good coverage (not quite as much as the Tarte one) but doesn’t look as makeup-y on the skin which is nice.

Powder, Contour & Bronzer:

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder: I cannot explain to you how amazing this powder is! It literally makes your under eyes look airbrushed. I don’t set my whole face with it because it is more of a matte finish but I will repurchase this over and over again just for my under eyes!

Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette: This palette was sold out for so long and I was super bummed that I couldn’t get my hands on it. I ended up finding it at Marshall’s when I was on vacation (which inside tip: check marshalls, tj maxx, ross, etc. for higher end makeup at discount prices!).

Benefit Hoola Bronzer: This is probably the most universally flattering bronzer I own. It’s just the perfect shade that warms up the skin while chiseling off a lb or two lol.

Blushes & Highlighters:

MAC Mineralize Blush: The blushes are beautiful on the skin. They come in an array of shades and they are nice and pigmented.

NARS blush: Again, these are just a great quality blush. Good pigmentation goes onto the skin nicely.

Laura Geller Bake Gelato Swirl Illuminator: I really love these highlighters. The look like butter on the skin and really just melts into your skin.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette: If you want a natural glow from within kind of look, then these are your powders. I generally just swirl my brush thru all three colors and it’s just stunning!

Benefit Gimme Brow: I totally use this product all the time. It’s great for those no make up days to just give your brows some color and definition, but I also love to use it to make my brows look fluffier when I’ve done them.

Buxom Lip Gloss: These are some of my favorite lip glosses! They have great pigmentation, high shine and have a slightly minty smell/taste and it slightly plumps your lips!! That’s a total win for me.

Inglot Eyeliner: Specifically, #77 which is just black. This eyeliner is so freakin creamy and super dark black. The best for gel eyeliner as far as I’m concerned.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post. Let me know in the comments if you’d like me to add prices and links on products for future blog posts!

Hugs and Luvs,

Products I use in my kit

I’ve got a surprising number of questions about what brand of products I use in my makeup artist kit! I thought I’d do a blog post with some examples of the products I use so clients can come here and reference items or readers can get some new products to try. I’m going to start with drugstore products since it’s a lot of products and I’ll have another post with my high-end products.

I honestly use an array of products; some high-end, some drugstore and some in middle range. I will say that people might have some preconceived notions about drugstore makeup but it really has taken a turn for the better in the last 5 years. In fact, sometimes a high-end brand and drugstore brand are owned by the same company and will put out similar products (ex. face powder), but the packaging is just cheaper quality.

So with that said, here are some of my favorite products that are drugstore.

Foundation and Concealer:

From top left clockwise:

Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Luminous Foundation: I love using this one mixed in with luminizer drops and moisturizer for a lighter coverage.

NYX Total Control Drop Foundation: This product is super buildable for those that want a higher coverage but really blends into the skin; instead of sitting on it.

Milani Conceal + Perfect Foundation: This is by far the best high coverage foundation at the drugstore! If applied with a beauty sponge, it really melts into the skin.

NYX HD Concealer: I’d say this is a medium coverage concealer but I really like how it blends into the skin.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer: This is probably my favorite drugstore concealer as it’s a good coverage and looks super natural. Plus they have tons of shades!

Powder, Contour and Bronzer:

Maybelline Fit Me Powder: I absolutely love this powder. It totally compares to some of my higher end powders and it comes in tons of shades!

Makeup Revolution Baked Bronzer Powder: These bronzers are great for someone with younger skin that wants to have that glow. They are super pigmented!

NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette: I’ve used these palette for a long time and think that the quality is great for the price. It’s pigmented, blends nicely into the skin and isn’t patchy.

Blushes & Highlighters:

NYX HD Blush (nude’tude): I really love NYX HD Blushes! I feel like the pigmentation and blendability are better than some high-end. My favorite color is nude’tude since it’s a bronzy peach color.

Milani Baked Blush: I absolutely love these blushes. By far some of the best blushes on the market!

ELF Blush Palette: I love these for my kit because the have 4 colors in the palette to choose from. The blushes are pigmented and easy to work with.

LA Girl Strobe Lite Powder: These are great for a really blinding highlight. I’d really only use this on a client with younger skin. Gives that wet look!

Wet n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder: I’m literally obsessed with these highlighters! They literally look like butter on the skin and can easily be built up for a high intensity look.

Covergirl Total Tease Mascara: Really like this mascara, but honestly when working on a client, I 90% put false lashes on them so frankly mascara isn’t a huge deal to me. As long as it makes the lashes black, I’m happy and I always use drugstore on my clients!

NYX Butter Gloss: These are my favorite glosses from the drugstore since they have so many colors and they’re really pigmented. I also love that they aren’t super sticky or goopy feeling on the lips!

NYX Slide on, Glide on Lip Liner: These are super creamy lip liners that stay sharp

Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Liner: This is a nice creamy liner for the waterline that stays on for a good amount of time.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil: These pencils are the closest I’ve found to the higher end Anastasia Beverly Hills brow pencil and they are like 1/3 of the price! Comes in lots of color variety and they’re super easy to use.

Okay that is just an example of the some of the drugstore makeup that is in my makeup kit and I use personally. I’ll be back with a part 2 here in a couple of days with my high-end makeup!

Hugs and Luvs,

Two Months

Hi there! It’s been awhile but not because I didn’t want to be here. I literally had no time! I’ll give you a quick update on the past two months.

I’ve had a total of 8 weddings this summer, plus some other makeup gigs so it’s been busy but good in that career path. Here are just some pictures from some of the weddings.

Photographer from top left clockwise: Marney Photography, Golden Heart Photography, Takenya Grace Photography, Bryanna Hunt Photography and Sydney Michelle Photography.

Not only was it wedding season, but it’s hunting season in Alaska so my husband has been in and out of town most of summer and fall trying to fill our freezers with fish and meat. This means I’m single moming it most of the time, but they boys and I get in our routine and keep living life when poppa is gone.

I also started working for my husband’s office at home. We made the boys room my office/beauty studio and moved them downstairs with a sweet bunk bed my husband made from scratch! So I’ve been spending any last free time I have working for the office. It feels nice to have this aspect back in my life again and the luxury of being at home is perfect for me to balance it all.

I also took the boys for a 10 day vacation to Florida to visit family. My parents moved there to be closer to my sister and grandma so we got to see the whole gang. The trip was jam packed with Disney World, beach days, my parents pool, air boat ride, etc. Tons of fun but exhausting! I definitely could have used a vacation from my vacation!

So that’s where I currently stand. I’m getting back into the swing of life now that it should slow down and I can find a rhythm between a mom, wife, make up artist, and now office manager! Wish me luck!

Hugs and Luvs,

Fun new products

There were a couple of things I wanted to try out from Sephora that were new so I made a quick order! I’ve used a couple of the items so I’ll give a review of the product down below. Clockwise:

NARS liquid blush:  I haven’t tried this one yet but it looks stunning. I’ve been using a lot of liquid products (bronzer and highlight) for a super glowy look so I’m excited to try this out.

Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlight (kitten): I absolutely love this! It’s definitely not for the faint of heart as it is pretty blinding but you could definitely do a lighter application. The formula on this is crazy; its like a putty/foam texture. So fun to poke lol!

SUNDAY RILEY Good Genes treatment: I just started this and the other Sunday Riley product about 3 days ago so I can’t really say if its done much. My skin does feel plump and moisturized after applying and letting it sink in. The smell is okay; not horrible or good.

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow (smoky storm): I own two of these already and had to pick up another color! These are some of my favorite glitter products on the market.

SUNDAY RILEY Luna Oil: As stated above, I haven’t used it long to notice anything. I will say I was surprised that the oil is blue so that is kind of fun, but the smell is horrible. It’s this earthy chamomile smell that is not pleasant at all. This product is supposed to work magic so I’ll put up with it for now.

Farsali Unicorn Essence: This product claims to be a serum and a primer mixed in one. It’s been all over Instagram as unicorn tears since the product is a light pink shimmery liquid. Honestly, its whatever. I’ll use it up but I won’t repurchase.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer (park ave princess): I’ve heard great things about this product for a long time but never got around to purchasing it. It never really popped out to me. But I am glad I tried this! The bronzer is the perfect mixture of cool and warm tones. It’s not a contour shade and not orange either. Would I repurchase this? Maybe but I don’t think it’ll be my go-to anytime soon.

Happy shopping everyone!

Hugs and Luvs,

Busy Busy Bee

Now that it’s summer aka wedding season, my life has been busy! I have 6 makeup applications this month; 3 I’ve already done. Not to mention my husband has gone out of town once already and leaves again in a week so I’m single moming it for awhile this month. I cant post the bridal trial runs yet but here is a look I did for Terri for her birthday last weekend.

Here are the looks I have been rocking lately. I’m really into bronzed glowing skin right now and it looks so beautiful!

All details are of course posted to my Instagram

Hugs and Luvs,

My favorite self tanner

I’m normally a pretty pasty shade of white so I like to tan probably once a month to give me a nice glow. In the winter time, I especially like to put a fresh coat of tan on when I’m starting to look a little sickly from the lack of sunshine! Plus, I feel like as soon as you get a nice tan; you instantly look like you’ve lost a couple of pounds (hint: you can even contour your body to look like you have more definition)!

I’ve tried a lot of self tanners over the years; drugstore and high end. I never really found one that I really loved until I tried Loving Tan deluxe bronzing mousse! It seemed that all self tanners were orange, streaky or smelled horrible but not Loving Tan. I use the Ultra Dark because as I stated before, I’m pasty AF naturally so I need all the help I can get.

The mousse formula has a color guard (aka the mousse is colored so you can see where you put it) that you apply with a mitt or brush. Ive noticed that if you have light streaks with the color guard; when you wash it off after 8 hours the streaks aren’t there which is great. The color is a super natural tan with a more browny/red tone so it actually looks realistic. It does smell a little bit, but not nearly as some others I’ve tried.

If you want to know a great way to apply your fake tan; check out Jaclyn Hill’s tutorial on apply tan. That is the exact way I apply mine and it always turns out good (unless I’m rushing or being lazy). I put mine on before bed time and then shower it off in the morning. Don’t be alarmed when you wake up looking like George Hamilton because it will wash off!

Hope you enjoy!

Hugs and Luvs,

Update on the Jean-Michel Basquiat

In my last post I told you how bad I wanted to play with these products so that’s exactly what I did! I created two looks with these palettes and will definitely continue putting these products in use because I am in love ❤ Below I’ll post some pictures and tell you what products I used and what I thought of them.

In this look, I used the palette with the brighter colors as well as the neutral palette. I think the nude palette blended out nicely and I’ll discuss that more below. I used the bright green color in the other palette and thought it was okay. It’s kinda got this in between shimmer and matte thing going for it and I guess I’d rather it pick a side. I did use MAC Fix+ to intensify it more (which isn’t uncommon for shimmers). I also used the darker color (les) in the brights palette. Its not as pigmented as I thought it was going to be (black shadows tend to lack pigmentation) but it was build-able which is nice. I also used the green eye pencil (post punk) and loved it! It was creamy, had good pigmentation, and didn’t tug the eye. Last thing I used was the nude lipstick (abstract) and this will definitely be a new favorite nude! Its got a great brownie tone to it without being straight up brown which can be hard to find.

Here is a more neutral wearable look that I created with the neutral palette, brick colored liner and the lipstick. If you are going to buy one of these palettes, definitely get the neutral one! I used enigma, levitation, and not for sale. All three were super blendable and pigmented. The brick red liner (anatomy) is probably a stand out of the collection for me! Its neutral enough that you could wear it often, but adds a really nice subtle pop to the eye. I kinda want to wear it every day or at least be buried wearing it! And again, I used abstract for the lip. Its super creamy and pigmented as well!

Hope you guys enjoyed the review of these products!

Hugs and Luvs,

Urban Decay Jean-Michel Basquiat

Urban decay basquiat

When I first saw images of the Urban Decay Jean-Michel Basquiat Vault, I knew I instantly wanted it. But the Vault sold out in seconds and I wasn’t able to get my hands on the whole limited edition collection. I did scoop up the two eye shadow pallets, two eye liners and a lipstick. I’m loving the packaging for the collection; it feels sturdy and well made while looking cool and different. I know ill get good use out of both palettes depending on if I want a neutral look or more of a colorful one. I’m probably most excited for these eyeliners since I have nothing like this in my collection or kit. The red/brown color is so stunning and such an unusual neutral and I’m in love with the bright green liner! Such fun ideas bouncing around my head!!! All three lipsticks were still in stock when I was purchasing this but I decided only on the color Abstract because it’s a beautiful brown nude and I know I’ll get tons of use out of it.

I’ll definitely be playing around with these in the next couple of days and I’ll do a review and show you what I create!
